Ugly Veggie Rescue

Client: Subway

Creative Director: Stephanie Caruso
Role: ACD

01 PROBLEM

Every year, thousands of pounds of perfectly good produce are tossed simply for being “too ugly” for store shelves. Subway wanted to tackle food waste while raising awareness for this overlooked issue.

02 SOLUTION

We launched Ugly Veggie Rescue, starring Nick Lachey as our spokesperson. At its heart was an interactive microsite where users could “adopt” their favorite misshapen veggie for a small fee. Subway matched every donation, with all proceeds going to Feeding America™.

03 RESULTs

The campaign brought food waste into the spotlight, connecting with audiences through humor, heart, and a touch of celebrity charm. Subway’s initiative raised funds for Feeding America™, and the work earned recognition in AdAge, proving that even the ugliest veggies can make a big impact.
