Ugly Veggie Rescue
Client: Subway
Creative Director: Stephanie Caruso
Role: ACD
Copywriter: Zack Swyers
01 PROBLEM
Every year, thousands of pounds of perfectly good produce are tossed simply for being “too ugly” for store shelves. Subway wanted to tackle food waste while raising awareness for this overlooked issue.
02 SOLUTION
We launched Ugly Veggie Rescue with Love is Blind host, Nick Lachey, as our spokesperson, a fitting choice for a campaign about looking beyond appearances. At the center was an interactive microsite where users could “adopt” their favorite misshapen veggie for a small fee, with Subway matching every donation and all proceeds benefiting Feeding America™.
03 RESULTs
The campaign brought food waste into the spotlight, connecting with audiences through humor, heart, and a touch of celebrity charm. Subway’s initiative raised funds for Feeding America™, and the work earned recognition in AdAge, proving that even the ugliest veggies can make a big impact.
